2007 Journeys BBQ Round 1 – Salt Lake City
Blue skies and views of the snow covered Wasatch Range served as the backdrop for Stop #1 of the Journeys Backyard BBQ. During set up the weather was quite windy and looked to stay breezy throughout the day on Saturday. Windy conditions typically only affect the Freestyle Motocross demos and would not put a damper on any of the other activities at the BBQ. Media before the event was very good; a live TV remote, live TV in studios, and quite a few print placements. Our radio partner gave away VIP wristbands and Etnies prize packs for two weeks leading up to the event assuring increased event awareness and great attendance.
Etnies brought out some of their amazing skate and BMX talent and some of their freestyle motocross sponsored riders diflucan tablets buy online. From the skate world we had Kyle Leeper, Elissa Steamer, and Ronnie Creager. BMX athletes Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla and X-Games Gold Medalist Jamie Bestwick were on hand to showcase their skills alongside the skaters on the incredible custom built 48-foot wide super mini that was christened “Large Marge”. Marge did not disappoint as all of the skaters and BMX riders had a great time riding the ramp. Most skate fans at the event had never even seen a mini ramp that big. Freestyle motocross legend and Etnies athlete, Brian Deegan, was on site to sign autographs and watch the Rockstar Energy Drink/Metal Mulisha FMX demo team perform under the brilliant Utah sky. As each demo concluded, the athletes participated in huge autograph sessions that each lasted about an hour and a half. The Etnies athletes were great with the fans, as they signed autographs and posed for pictures with everyone.
The Converse Battle of the Bands was a huge success. Many of the bands used their own street marketing teams to help promote their appearances at the BBQ. The winner of the day was Postcards Home. The headline band for the day was Meg & Dia. They are a Salt Lake City based band that drew a good size crowd just before they left for Warped Tour. The location of the BBQ venue was situated right next to the highly traveled Interstate 15 highway and gave us some great visibility to passersby. The first stop of the Journeys Backyard BBQ was a huge success and gave us a great opportunity to start things off with a bang. On to Detroit for stop #2.
